Collaboration

Have interesting models in your own CASE tool and don't want to recreate them using our online editor, but want to share them and interact with other modellers ?

Our add-in for Enterprise Architect enables you to share your diagrams with a simple click.

Technology Preview

We are proud to announce the availability of a technology preview of our first integration component. Seeing is believing, so here are 5 steps to share your existing diagrams on the web right now:

Step 1: Get the Add-in and Register It

First things first: time to download the addin. Here's a direct link to it:

Download
UmlCanvas.EA.Addin.zip

After unpacking the zip file in a convenient place, you should see the following files:

Now, we need to register the add-in with EA. To do so, execute the reg.bat batch file:

NOTE: This reg.bat batch file is very rudimentary and you might run into troubles. Take a look at its source if you do and you will probably be able to adjust it to the possibilities of your system.

Step 2: Get a Hosted UmlCanvas Account

The add-in allows you to post your EA-based diagrams to Hosted UmlCanvas, our hosting service for UmlCanvas-based diagrams. Although Hosted UmlCanvas allows the creation of anonymous diagrams, using the add-in you need an account to authenticate yourself.

Visit http://hosted.umlcanvas.org/signup to request your account. We will activate it and confirm its creation as soon as possible.

Step 3: Start EA and select a diagram

Step 4: Start the Export

You can access the functionality of the add-in from the context menu of the diagram:

For now only the export functionality is available, but soon, full round-trip synchronization will allow seamless integration of your EA desktop tool and the online UmlCanvas world.

Once activated, a small form presents itself. It allows you to enter your username and password, but also to choose a unique identifier and a description for the diagram. All fields on the form are required:

Now, press Save ...

Step 5: Your (previously) EA-based diagram is now available online ...

... and the add-in will do its magic. When ready it will launch a browser, directing it to the newly exported diagram on the Hosted UmlCanvas site, ready to be included in any HTML-based resource, ... like this page for example:

That's it. It's as simple as that.

Up Next

This is merely a technology preview and we're sure it will fail miserably when trying to export most diagrams. If it does ... tell us, so we can fix it.

The first official release of the UmlCanvas EA Add-in will be part of the next UmlCanvas release.
